Interesting Climes Section
A wise man once said "May you surf in interesting climes." Or, maybe that was just the way I remembered it. In any case, surfing doesn't have to be in perfect, tropical conditions to be fun. If you're still surfing crowded conditions, you're probably just not very adventurous. Or maybe you're too picky. Here are some of the climes you might try.
- Cold. Winter Surfing section. Tips for gear, attitude, and technique. Enjoy cold water surfing more. Picture journal from winter surf sessions.
- Fresh. Fresh water surfing is alive and well. Lakes are like small oceans, and decent conditions can be found. Plus, your board and wet suit will get rinsed out in the process.
- Urban. Enjoy a subway ride that emerges into the open air, with surf at the end of the line.
- Small. Summer surf in the Northeast is usually small. But it can be surfed with a big board. And you can find some picturesque spots.
- Rainy. I sampled UK surf in several conditions; drizzly, rainy, pouring, and misty.
- Strange. Coney Island is known for another kind of ride, but in rare conditions, it's possible to surf there.
- Meditative. Beach Koans.
