High step to spinner, backwards cross half shuffle, hang heel nose perch, half spinner to switch walk to tailThis routine doesn't have a slide in it as shown, but you could certainly work one in. It puts together some advanced footwork that goes along with this style. The idea is to set up a hang heels or hang one heel at the nose. I will use a half spinner as an alternative to a basic walk up. Before the hang heels there is an interesting and difficult cross step backwards shuffle to reposition on the nose. High step into 270 degree spinnerThe first thing I intend to do is to get facing backwards and set up a back walk up the board.
With a little speed, I start in the narrow tail stance. There's plenty of room up the board. I point my front foot forward and begin to cross step.
Just for a variation, I take a real high step here, almost a kick with my heel. It's kind of goofy in the beginning stages, but if you build it up it can be pretty impressive. In another Slide Walk, the Hand Kick routine, I kick much higher into a raised hand behind me, then set the foot down in a back cross step, making a piece of complex footwork. This is the preliminary work you'll need for that, so try to figure it out, silly as it may seem. Also, step variations show control. It shows you can take any kind of crazy step you want while you're riding a skateboard, and don't need to walk scared.
When I bring my right foot down after the kick, I bring it down facing to the left. From my original stance, facing to the right, I have rotated my shoulders almost a full 180 deg to face left. Meanwhile I pivot my left foot around so it too faces to the left. Remember I pointed it forward before, making it easier to do this. Now I've gone into a switch stance. This whole move is a half spinner. Some new schoolers might call it a body varial. At this point I could get into a hang heel stance at the nose. In fact, this is what you should do when practicing this routine, to learn the hang heels tricks. I'm going to throw in another step sequence that will open up many options.
I continue to pivot to the left, continuing the spinner. I could take another pivot step and finish the spinner. But for this routine I have something different in mind.
I begin to take a cross step and walk toward the tail. Now the spinner is done at 270 deg. I am now walking forward to the tail while the board is moving backwards. This is a very weird feeling and it's easy to blow it. I try to be very calm and not get too thrown by the strange feeling. I'm not looking where I'm going, but I made sure I had some room with no pedestrians or skaters in the way before I turned backwards. What I intend to do is to stop my walk to the tail with a cross step and back up a bit. This will reposition me on the nose in a cool way and set up my hang heel nose perch. |
