I, Keith Johnson, take no responsibility or accept no liability for injuries resulting from participating in skateboarding. Skateboarding, even when done well, with competent instruction, can be a dangerous activity. You need to be careful when you ride a skateboard. I take no responsibility for your safety and well being. Safety equipment should be worn, and proper training and warmup exercises should be performed to minimize potential injury. Falls, strains to muscles and tendons, and contusions from contact with heavy longboards should be expected. These are the types of injuries I have suffered in the process of creating this material. Care must be taken to minimize the effect of these stresses. I encourage skateboarders to train properly with weights and other means of conditioning. Some of the maneuvers I perform are difficult and require strength and flexibility. I have taken pains to note which styles and maneuvers may be dangerous or offer more strain on the body. I advocate the wearing of padding, at least minimal wrist and leg protection for any skateboarding. If you are taking the material shown here to skate parks, hills, banks, or other dangerous terrain, you should additionally wear a helmet and perhaps a full set of pads. Parents -- you need to make sure your kids are skating safely. The kids are your responsibililty, not mine. You should be aware of what kind of skating they are doing, and what kind of safety equipment they are wearing. Having stated the above, I still believe that most skateboarding participants will find Surface Motion longboard skating to be a relatively safe form of the sport that is accessible to a wider range of ages and body types than most skateboarding. Most of these maneuvers are performed at a relatively low speed on flat ground. By skateboarding in this way, a lot of impact injuries resulting from high speed and high objects can be avoided. |
