Before the harbor was built, fishermen hauled their boats up onto the wharf. Some boats were kept at Moss Landing. Commentary: Some fishermen later complained that things were better for them before the harbor. When it was sanded in, their boats were unusable and fishing was impossible, thus they would lose money. In the old days, they could at least get their boats off the wharf even in winter if fishing conditions seemed good enough to warrant the effort.
